Therapy for
moms
When you’re planning a family, you’re likely spending a lot of time thinking about the baby and home preparation, and not much time thinking about your evolving role as a mother. This is common; it is an exciting time! Yet, it is also important to know that pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early childhood are all major life events that can take a heavy toll on a mom’s (and baby’s) mental health. Whether you are planning for motherhood or have already arrived, Inner Shalom offers therapeutic help for all stages of the journey. Because we envision a generation of mothers and children who are healing, healthy, and thriving!
There is an old saying: “when the child is born so, too, is the mother.” It seems like it would be a beautiful and natural event, reflecting many of the words in the first list. And that certainly can be part of the reality. Yet, the experience can be a lot more variegated and tumultuous than many assume. To many a mothers’ surprise, their realities are quickly characterized by adjectives in the second list instead.
The journey of motherhood is often like swinging back-and-forth between the two, the good and the hard.
Mothers Need Support!
Did you know?

In the United States alone, up to 20% of pregnant women and new mothers have postpartum depression.
Perinatal mental health (PMH) disorders can appear anytime during pregnancy, post-loss, and 12 months after postpartum.
PPD rates can be three to four times higher for women of color, particularly black mothers
If a woman has had a history of a MH disorder, it can be complicated by the perinatal period
Some women develop a new MH disorder as a result of the perinatal period
Left untreated, PMH disorders increase risks for mother and child, spanning from developmental delays, to bonding difficulties, to life-altering outcomes
